Rock-Simulating Tree Bark For Dioramas
Real tree bark fragments for simulating rocks in dioramas and terrain builds — a natural alternative to carved foam or cork rocks, with a texture that's genuinely impossible to replicate artificially.
Because this is actual tree bark, every piece has unique grain, surface variation, and the kind of weathered detail that takes hours to sculpt by hand. Paint it, weather it, add moss or water effects, and it reads as real stone at any scale.
Why real bark beats foam or cork:
- Authentic texture: natural grain and surface variation that foam can't match
- No two alike: each fragment is unique — no repetition issues
- Lightweight: easy to glue at any angle without sagging or supports
- Paintable: takes acrylic paint, washes, and weathering effects perfectly
Choose your size:
- 2-6mm: gravel, scree, small pebbles, fine ground detail (60g)
- 5-12mm: small rocks, riverbed stones, path edges (60g)
- 11-22mm: medium rocks, boulders for figure bases (60g)
- 18-30mm: larger boulders, rock outcrops, cliff details (60g)
- 26-65mm: dominant boulders, rock formations, base features (150g)
Works great for:
- Dioramas and vignettes — rocky outcrops, boulders, rubble piles
- Wargame terrain — natural rock formations and scenic accents
- Model railway layouts — cuttings, embankments, rocky landscapes
- Aquarium and fantasy terrain — natural rock textures
Key features:
- Real tree bark — 100% natural material
- 5 size variants — select above
- 60g packs (2-6, 5-12, 11-22, 18-30mm) or 150g pack (26-65mm)
- Attach with PVA glue or CA (super glue) for instant bond
- Paint with acrylics — prime first with a dark base for best depth
Painting tip: Apply a dark base coat (black or dark grey), then drybrush progressively lighter greys to bring out the texture. Finish with a thin wash to settle pigment into the grain.
For a complete rocky scene, combine with blue foam slabs to build the larger terrain mass and static grass for ground cover around the rocks.
