Dry brushing is one of the most effective techniques for adding instant depth to a model: it catches raised rivets on armour, picks out the texture on stone walls, brightens the edges of Gunpla panel lines, and makes diorama rubble and vegetation look naturally worn. The result is realistic without needing an airbrush or advanced skills.

Why short stiff bristles matter

Standard brushes are too soft and too long for dry brushing — they flex too much, deposit too much paint, and leave streaks. This brush uses short, densely packed bristles that barely flex under pressure, giving you direct mechanical control over how much paint transfers with each stroke. You can build up highlights gradually, which is exactly what the technique requires.

How to use it

Load the brush lightly with paint, then wipe most of it off on a paper towel until almost no paint transfers when you stroke the towel. At that point, brush lightly across the raised surfaces of your model — the small amount of remaining paint catches only the highest points, creating natural-looking highlights with each pass. Build up gradually for more intensity.
