A 1/48 scale DIY paper card model of the Apollo Eagle lunar module — the spacecraft that carried Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin to the surface of the Moon during Apollo 11 in 1969.

Where most space-themed model kits are plastic or resin, this is a paper card build — accessible to anyone with basic crafting tools, no airbrush or modeling experience required. The finished model captures the iconic geometric shape of the Apollo Lunar Module: the angular ascent stage on top, the gold-foiled descent stage with its four landing legs, and the spider-like silhouette that became the symbol of the Apollo programme.

Works great for:

  • Apollo and space programme enthusiasts — displayable piece of mission history
  • STEM education — illustrates real spacecraft design and construction
  • Gifts for space, history, or aviation enthusiasts
  • Mindful crafting projects — focused, satisfying build experience
  • Display alongside other Apollo memorabilia or scale spacecraft

Key features:

  • 1/48 scale paper card model — historical accuracy in proportions
  • Finished height: 14 cm (5.51 in.)
  • Difficulty: 4 out of 6 — intermediate level
  • DIY build — paper card sheets to cut and assemble
  • Tools needed: scissors (recommended: cutting knife and ruler), paper or contact glue

How to build:

  1. Use scissors or a cutting knife to carefully separate each piece from the sheets
  2. Score fold lines lightly with the back of a knife for clean folds
  3. Apply paper or contact glue sparingly to tab edges
  4. Assemble in order — descent stage first, then ascent stage
  5. Hold pieces in position for a few seconds while glue sets

Tip: Work slowly and dry-fit each section before gluing. Paper models are unforgiving once glued — but extremely satisfying when finished cleanly.
