1/35 Photoetch Palm Leaves
Photoetched brass palm leaves for 1/35 scale dioramas — fine metal foliage that captures the delicate detail of real palm fronds in a way that paper or plastic simply cannot match.
Each leaf is precision-etched in thin brass, ready to be cut from the fret, bent into natural shapes, painted, and applied to a palm tree trunk or scenery base. The photoetch material lets you create realistic fronds with the right thickness, transparency at edges, and ability to hold a bent shape without springing back.
Works great for:
- 1/35 desert dioramas — North Africa campaigns, Middle East scenes
- 1/35 jungle and tropical dioramas — Pacific theatre, Vietnam War, modern conflicts
- 1/35 vignettes featuring palm trees or tropical vegetation
- Detail-up of existing palm tree models — replacing thick plastic leaves with finer brass
- Scratch-building palm trees from wire and putty trunks
Key features:
- Photoetched brass — fine, in-scale leaf thickness
- 1/35 scale — proportioned for standard military modeling
- Multiple leaves per fret
- Bendable and shapeable — hold natural curves once formed
- Cut from fret with hobby knife or PE scissors
How to use:
- Cut individual leaves from the brass fret with a sharp hobby knife or PE scissors
- Gently bend each leaf to create natural drape and curvature
- Prime with metal primer, then paint with acrylics — green base with darker shadows and lighter tip highlights
- Attach to a palm trunk (scratch-built or kit) using CA glue at the base
- Once dry, add weathering and dust pigments to integrate with the diorama base
Tip: Photoetch palm leaves work best when bent in slightly different positions on the same tree — natural palm fronds don't all hang at the same angle. Vary the curvature to read as a real tree, not a uniform fan.
To complete a tropical or jungle scene, add our bamboo plants and reed grass for layered authentic vegetation.
