I use them both to apply paint in certain areas, and especially for dry brushing (as you don't risk some bristles placing paint where you don't want to) and for the controlled application of pigments, such as metallic pigment in tracks or machine guns.
- And they are now being used for many other purposes, such as smoothing surfaces in clay sculpting, blending pencil in drawing etc.
