Spend a fortune on premium paints and apply them over unsanded plastic — your model will still look like a toy. Spend a few dollars on sandpaper and use it correctly — and cheap rattlecan paint will look display-worthy. Sanding is the most impactful skill in scale modeling, and the one most beginners skip entirely.
